Microscopic Hair Examination

A  confidential health history is taken, taking relevant information about past health, nutrition, diet, lifestyle habits and hair care management If you have had recent blood test results, they need to be brought to the appointment as this helps identify the problem so that the best method of treatment can be chosen.

The scalp will normally be examined using a hair polarising system.  This is used to inspect, diagnose and analyse the scalp, hair density, hair pore, hair thickness, hair root nutrition and hair shaft nutrition through scientific images and any inflammation, scaling or redness is quickly identified.

Photographs can be taken with this system to record the status and progress after treatment.  A quick and reliable scan can show whether a hair follicle is present and can  establish if there is any inflammation around the hair follicle.
Sometimes, microscopic analysis or laboratory tests will be necessary before a diagnosis can be made.

A close relationship bonds the skin, hair and the nails and all play an equal role in correctly identifying the problem. The nail plate grows slowly and is the largest sheet of keratin in the body. It is of crucial importance in clinical medicine because it reflects the health events of the previous months. Careful observation of the nail plate will be part of the examination.
